When Free Costs More

Dave Killion — May 5, 2011

Here’s a letter to The Times-Colonist:

The title of your May 4th article “Parking at provincial parks free” very badly misrepresents the facts of the matter.

Prior to Premier Clark’s announcement, people were free to choose between spending money on a¬†parking fee at a provincial park, or spending that money on whatever else they saw fit. Under the new regime, everyone¬†is forced to pay for parking through higher taxes and/or lost services, whether they go to the park or not!

Politicians love (and depend on) concentrating benefits while dispersing costs, and then telling us we’re getting something ‘free’. Don’t fall for it!
