This is from the last bit of reading the club had, and it is another example of how religion serves to counter-balance the state –
“In the Protestant north one says “Guten Tag”; in the Catholic south, “Grüß Gott (God be with you)”. It is a little harder (not much, but a little) to change to “Heil Hitler” from “Grüß Gott” than from “Guten Tag.”
